Bone
Bone buttons can be found in nearly every box of old buttons. They were used throughout the 19th century on all types of undergarments, especially union suits. In the Civil War bone buttons were used on enlisted men's shirt uniforms. Prisoners of War, both North and South, frequently carved buttons out of bone to trade with the guards for a little something extra. These hand-carved bone buttons have extra large holes. Look for this type of bone button in my Earth Tone Mix bracelet line, as well as my Bone Bracelets. |
